Heineken: Bill Gates acquires a stake in Heineken Holding

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) – Billionaire Bill Gates has acquired a 3.76% stake in Heineken Holding NV, the holding company that owns Dutch brewer Heineken NV, according to a Dutch regulatory filing.

The shares were purchased on February 17 from Mexican group FEMSA, the document reads.

According to another regulatory filing, also dated Feb. 17, FEMSA sold all of the 18 million shares it held in Heineken Holding.

Bill Gates purchased 10.8 million shares for €883 million at the current stock price, triggering a disclosure requirement under Dutch stock market rules.

During a question-and-answer session on the Reddit social network in 2018, Bill Gates said that he was “not a big beer drinker”.

“When I find myself at something like a baseball game, I drink a light beer to get in the mood for all the other beer drinkers. Sorry to disappoint the real beer drinkers.”

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the charity launched by the billionaire and his former wife, was not immediately available for comment.
