The young German actress Helena Zengel has got on well with Tom Hanks since filming "Neues aus der Welt".

The German actress Helena Zengel (12) conquers Hollywood. In the western film "Neues aus der Welt" (original title: "News Of The World"), the star from "Systemsprenger" plays the leading role alongside Tom Hanks (64). In interviews, she raves about her famous colleague.

In a screening event, Zengel told Page Six how Tom Hanks helped her on camera. "He really cried in every scene, even if he wasn't in the picture, it was my close-up." It was great to help her get emotional in this way. But the co-stars also got along very well away from the camera.

"We grew together on the set. We talked about songs that he sang or films that he still wanted to make," Zengel told the newspaper "Bild". The friendship continues to this day: "We often write e-mails and send each other photos, we talk on the phone. We just like to tell each other what we do in everyday life," said Zengel. At the beginning, the young star didn't even know who to be in front of the camera with: "I didn't even know who Tom Hanks was beforehand. He mainly makes adult films." Only when she knew that she would play with him did she watch his films – "to inform me".

"News from the world" – that's what it's all about

Tom Hanks plays Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd in the film, who has been a news deliverer and newspaper reader in the country since the end of the American Civil War. In Texas he then receives an unusual assignment: he is supposed to bring ten-year-old Johanna Leonberger (Helena Zengel), who was kidnapped by the Kiowa four years ago, to her aunt and uncle. A journey through the dangerous wilderness begins.

"News from the World" starts in US cinemas on December 25, 2020. It was originally due to be released in German cinemas on January 7, 2021. Due to the corona pandemic, however, the film should be available on Netflix.
