Helicopter in action – wind was fatal for paragliders on Schafberg

A 22-year-old from Salzburg crashed his paraglider on Schafberg on Wednesday afternoon. Strong wind pushed him against the mountain.

Shortly after taking off from Schafberg, the paraglider pilot was pushed against the north face of the mountain by strong winds. He managed to open the rescue parachute before falling to the ground 200 meters below. Witnesses saw the Salzburger crash and alerted the rescue team. The injured man was rescued by the crew of the “Christophorus 6” rescue helicopter using a rope rescue. He was taken to the Salzburg accident hospital for further treatment with minor injuries.
