Helicopter mission – 20 centimeter stone falls on climbers

This is certainly not how the two alpinists from Germany imagined their climbing tour. In the early hours of Sunday, they climbed from Scheffau in the direction of the Schneekars on the Wilder Kaiser to climb the Sonnenpfeiler climbing route. But before it could really start, one of the two was hit by a stone.

This climbing tour was already over before it could really start. Two experienced alpinists from Germany, aged 49 and 57, climbed Sunday morning from Scheffau in Tyrol in the direction of the Schneekar on the Wilder Kaiser to climb the Sonnenpfeiler climbing route there. At around 8.30 a.m. the two reach the start of the climbing tour. The 57-year-old climbed the first pitch in the lead. At the belay he caught up the rope. Even before the second climbed from the belay, a stone about 20 centimeters in size fell over the 49-year-old for reasons currently unknown and fell in his direction. The alpinist was hit on the right thigh. Pain too great to descend into the valley Due to the pain, the man was no longer able to descend into the valley. For this reason, his climbing partner made the emergency call, and the injured person was flown to the hospital in Kufstein by emergency helicopter.
