Helis in constant use – Leap Day left five injured in Tyrol’s mountains

Tyrol’s emergency services were really challenged on Thursday. The helicopters had to go to the Stubai Glacier three times. In Sölden in the Ötztal, boarding the lift worked differently than planned. And in Pill (Schwaz district) a ski tour ended with a fall into a depression.

In the Stubai Glacier ski area, emergency services were called upon three times. Around 10 a.m., a German woman (36) was snowboarding on the blue “Fernauferner” slope. “She fell on her own in the lower third of the slope and seriously injured her shoulder,” the police said. The “Alpin 2” emergency medical helicopter took them to Hall Hospital. Shortly before 12 p.m., two Germans (both 19 years old) who were on alpine skis collided on the red “Pfafenschneid” piste, just before a piste intersection. While one was uninjured, the other suffered a serious pelvic injury. He was also taken to the Hall hospital by the “Alpin 5” emergency medical helicopter. At around 1:20 p.m., a boy (7) from the Czech Republic skied into the “Big family fun slope” fun park. “He fell on his own while jumping over a hill.” The child sustained injuries to his left thigh. It was taken to the Innsbruck clinic by the “Alpin 2” emergency medical helicopter. Injured while getting into the lift. The fourth accident occurred around 12.15 p.m. A Swiss woman (58) wanted to use the “Gratl” chairlift in the Sölden ski area with her husband. “The woman got stuck in the entry area and fell to the ground on her right side.” The confederate landed with her right arm on a wooden board. She suffered a serious injury to her wrist. The piste rescue team brought them to the valley.Tourers fell in a valley. The fifth accident finally occurred at around 1:40 p.m. From Pill, a Tyrolean (63) went on a ski tour with his wife towards “Sonntagsköpfl”. The accident occurred on the descent from the summit towards “Loassattel”. “At an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level, the man overlooked the Marschentalbach and fell into a depression.” The 63-year-old suffered a serious injury to his lower leg. The tourer was rescued by the “Martin 7” emergency medical helicopter and flown to Schwaz Hospital.
