Help from the air – Helicopters are supposed to clear lines of snow

Around 3,800 households in central and lower Carinthia are still without electricity because of the snow. In order to restore the power supply, Kelag hired private helicopters. “These primarily serve to ensure that our fitters can work as safely as possible,” explains Schmaranz. “But the helicopters can also be used for so-called ‘downwashing’, in which the lines and routes are blown clear with the suction of the rotors. If this is possible without risk, we will use it to continue to secure the power supply.”
