Helpers in constant use – Kufstein city center under water “like never before”

The heavy rain in the night on Sunday hit the district capital Kufstein in the Unterland particularly hard in Tyrol. “The city center is under water in a way that we have never seen before,” emphasizes Mayor Martin Krumschnabel.

Major clean-up work is currently out of the question: “We are still in the middle of the process,” the city chief reported to the APA on Sunday morning. In the city center, cellars and garages in particular are flooded, but the fire brigades currently have no time to tackle these construction sites.

Disaster train arrived
These are on the move with excavators and pumps to pump out the streams and clear blockages. Inflow streams of the Inn had overflowed their banks, but the latter did not cause any problems for the second largest city in Tyrol. A disaster train had already arrived in Kufstein, and they were now working all over the city, said Krumschnabel.

The population is still called upon to avoid the urban area. The civil protection alarm, which was activated shortly before midnight, was lifted again at around 8 a.m.
