The battle is long for Henry Sannier, but she finally starts to pay. The 74-year-old former sports journalist gave an interview to Abbeville newspaper, in its edition of July 21 in order to give its news. And they were pretty good.
At the end of 2020, while he was on a mountain bike, Henri Sannier was “hit head-on“by a car as he explained to Entertainment TV after his accident. He ended up having difficulty walking and so went to the hospital for tests. Over time, the medical profession found that he suffered from neuropathy. A disorder that forced him to move around in a wheelchair because he could no longer walk, in addition to no longer being able to write. But nearly a year and a half after the accident, he is finally seeing results.
“It had been many nights that I had dreamed that I was walking from my portal home. Last June, during the night, I got up to get some medicine. And I walked. In fact, I think I realized that I could walk again“, confided Henri Sannier to the JAbbeville Journal. So he was”the happiestas [s’il avait] won a stage of the Tour de France“. Especially since because of his illness, he has lost “about ten kilos, but above all muscle at the level of [ses] legs“.
Despite everything, Henri Sannier never lost hope and knew “stay strong in [sa] head“. A strength that he drew in particular thanks to the support of those close to him. “I have always been well surrounded by my wife Sylviane, my children and my loved ones. And my grandchildren, Alice and Louis, are a makeover and a great source of motivation“, continued the mayor of the town of Eaucourt-sur-Somme (Hauts-de-France).
Although he has passed a great stage, Henri Sannier is not done with neuropathy. Thus, he must go to Paris every six weeks in order to carry out plasmapheresis (the process of separating plasma and blood, generally by centrifugation or filtration). And he has yet to regain full use of his hands. “I know I will get there. My goal is to be able to get back on the bike and ride again“, he concluded.
