In 2006 he was already close: After Daniel Craig’s departure, Henry Cavill continues to dream of playing James Bond one day.

In 2006, Henry Cavill (38) almost became James Bond, but then the makers preferred the then 23-year-old to the much older Daniel Craig (now 53). But Cavill is still in the mood for 007. In one Interview with the “Sunday Times” confirmed the “Witcher” star his interest in the agent role and emphasized that everything is still open at the moment.

In 2006, Cavill fell through the casting for the Bond flick “Casino Royale” because he supposedly didn’t seem well trained for a shower scene. The Brit made a career beyond Bond, playing the “Man of Steel” Superman in the DC Extended Universe and the witch hunter “The Witcher” for Netflix.

“Yes, I would like to play Bond”

Cavill never made a secret of the fact that he still wanted Bond. In an interview with the “Sunday Times” he renewed his ambitions. The actor neither wanted to confirm nor deny whether he was actually in the running. “Everything is always possible,” he said cryptically. And further: “At the moment everything is still in the balance. We will see what happens. But yes, I would like to play Bond, that would be very, very exciting”.

But, according to Cavill, a lot depends on those responsible for the 007 brand – and in which direction the franchise will develop after the end of the Craig era. “Maybe they’re even getting younger, like they considered me to be when it was just about me and Daniel,” says Cavill.

If the makers actually consider a younger Bond, that would be another end for the actor. After he was too chubby, he would now be too old …
