“I have the impression that we very quickly erase female artists”, assures Amel Bent. Although the representation of women in the music scene is a little more developed than there was “ten or fifteen years”the problem would also be that of the career longevity. About artists like Angèle, Pomme or Clara Luciani, the coach of The Voice still hope to hear from them in twenty years and that we “will let them grow old”. Behind this remark, a reflection on ageism, this tendency to discriminate against people according to their age. A practice that concerns more womenin the music industry as elsewhere, regrets the singer.

“Me, what bothers me, and it’s not only in music, in the cinema we also see it and the actresses talk about it a lot: when do you have the right to be a woman of 40? , 50 years old on screen, on stage, without already being too old?” asks the young mother. In Hollywood in particular, this practice is regularly denounced by certain actresses. Geena Davis, Meryl Streep or Maggie Gyllenhaal have not hesitated to speak openly about the drop in the number of role proposals after their 35th birthday and their on-screen male romantic partners routinely played by older actors. “One says : “Men are like wine”, recalls Amel Bent with humor.
