The iPhone had dominated the market in 2021, it would seem that the trend will be the same for 2022. According to a ranking by the International Data Corporation (IDC), Apple and Samsung would be the only two brands to occupy the first five places of smartphones the most sold during the first quarter of 2022.

The vice president and analyst of IDC published on Twitter the top 5 most popular smartphones in the world in the first quarter of 2021, which in fact corresponds to the best-selling phones in this period. Here is the published ranking:

  1. Apple iPhone 13
  2. Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max

The only iPhone 13 model that does not appear in the rankings is the iPhone 13 mini, which is not very successful. Apple is also considering abandoning the mini version for the iPhone 14. Apple keeps its pole position: in 2021 the Apple brand had seven of its phones in the top 10 best-selling smartphones, occupying the first five squares.

On the Samsung side, it is especially the entry-level models that are successful: the Korean manufacturer is therefore not left behind against brands that attack it such as Xiaomi or Realme. The A12 model continues to sell well since over the whole of 2021, it had risen to sixth position among the best-selling phones in the world.

In France, Samsung is in decline in terms of phone sales, competed by Realme which had a growth of 443% in the first half of 2022 compared to last year at the same period. Meanwhile, Apple remains relatively stable.
