The spin-off of Game Of Thrones, broadcast by HBO, finally shows itself visually. But by the way, who are the characters of House of the Dragon ? Here are their posters.
Series Game Of Thrones ended in 2019 on HBO. Three years later, all eyes are on the spin-off, which takes place hundreds of years before: House of the Dragon. The wait was long, but the very first trailer for the series was released on May 5, 2022. It finally gives an overview of the reign of the Targaryens.
The same day, the official Twitter account of the series released the posters of the main characters. Who are these people to whom we will attach ourselves or that we will hate over the episodes, before they probably almost all die in excruciating pain?
Rhaenyra Targaryen
Princess of House Targaryen, Rhaenyra is at the heart of the bloody war of succession of this dynasty – a war called “Dance of the Dragons”. Rhaenyra would normally succeed her father (Viserys), since she is the eldest, but this right is disputed by her half-brother Aegon II. His nickname: “joy of the kingdom”.
Viserys Targaryen
The Viserys Targaryen that appears in House of the Dragon is the first of the name (the one that appears in season 1 of Game Of Thrones is the third of the name). He is the king of Westeros and his reign is a prosperous, rather quiet period. But he won’t prevent his kingdom from being thrown into chaos by starting the Succession Wars (which has yet to kick off this season of the spin-off).
Daemon Targaryen
Prince of the Targaryens, Daemon is a free electron of the Targaryen family, a sulphurous, charismatic warrior, who does as he pleases. It shows the dragon Caraxes. He is the son of Baelon and Alyssa Targaryen.
Otto Hightower
Otto is none other than the Hand of the King for Viserys. But, without saying too much about his exact role or his alliances, his brutal and proud, and particularly manipulative behavior, will greatly play in triggering the wars of succession between the Targaryen children.
Alicent Hightower
Alicent is the daughter of Otto Hightower, but also the second wife of King Viserys. She is in constant rivalry with her stepdaughter Rhaenyria, and thus a supporter of Aegon II.
Corlys Velaryon
Corlys Velaryon is the lord of House Velaryon. It is nicknamed “sea serpent”. He is a support of Rhaenyria during the War of Succession.
Rhaenys Targaryen
Daughter of Aerion Targaryen and Valaena Velaryon, Rhaenys Targaryen is the wife of Aegon I. She rides the dragon Meraxes and she is perhaps the most “dragon-loving” in the family at this time in the dynasty.
Criston Cole
It will be a bit like the Jon Snow of the spin-off. He is a knight, belonging to House Cole, and who is none other than the Commander of the Night’s Watch during the reign of Viserys.
Mysaria
Mysaria has a defining role from the shadows: she is unofficially the mistress of the whisperers, for Rhaenyra. She is sometimes nicknamed Lady Misery or Ver Blanc. She has a relationship with Daemon Targaryen.
Where is Aegon II?
The spin-off is currently focusing on Rhaenyra’s early youth. King Viserys is therefore still alive, the war of succession has not started. At this point, Aegon II is only a very young child (or perhaps hasn’t been born: we don’t have the exact chronological marker for the series, for the moment). It will appear later, over the seasons, probably.
