here are the forecasts of canceled trains for the February holidays

SNCF controllers are planning new strikes for the February holidays. These are the days when it may be difficult to travel by train.

After the December 2022 strike where 200,000 travelers had not been able to arrive at their destination for the Christmas holidays, the controllers of the SNCF once again threaten to strike. This time, it is the February holidays which are targeted and which could well be only a foretaste of a larger strike movement for the Olympic Games. Currently, controllers are planning to strike February 16, 17 and 18. This is the weekend of vacation departures for the academies of Besançon, Dijon, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Grenoble, Lyon, Limoges and Poitiers.

And this weekend is right in the middle of the school holidays of the academies of Ile-de-France, Montpellier and Toulouse. A strike notice was filed by Sud-Rail, from Thursday, February 15 at 8 p.m., until Monday, February 19 at 8 a.m. Furthermore, the CGT-Cheminots has filed a renewable strike notice from February 15 at 7 p.m. The syndicate “calls on railway workers in the train sector, whatever their activity (InOui, Ouigo, TER, Intercités, Transilien) their rank or their function, to stop work on February 16, 17 and 18”.

Why this new strike by SNCF controllers?

A strike which therefore risks impacting the departure on vacation of many French people. But the controllers are angry because the measures promised after the December 2022 strike have still not been put into action. Among these measures: the mandatory presence of 2 controllers per TGV, an increase in their work bonus, but above all “a recognition of the arduousness of the profession with the renegotiation of the agreement on the gradual cessation of activity”.

The controllers hope that this threat of strike will be enough to finally win their case. “The general idea being a lifting of notices 24/48 hours before the deadline in the event that management finally applies these commitments”, explains a source to BFMTV. Otherwise, the controllers say “ready to go to the Olympics”. “If the agents and unions have decided to spare Christmas, the Olympics remain very compromised, agents save paid leave on CET (time savings account) to finance an extremely tough movement”, explains an SNCF driver.
