New Apple Intelligence features

With the new Apple Intelligence update, the AI made in Apple will be able to manage your notifications, automatically write things for you or summarize the text in your emails. But that’s not all: Siri also takes photos and creates personalized emojis.

Siri has also evolved a lot. For example, you can ask Siri to “take a photo pop,” and the voice assistant will be able to take a photo that you’re looking at and send it to a friend.

Likewise, Apple is rolling out new email writing suggestions and text summaries. In Mail, while typing a message, you can ask Siri to write it for you and ask it to change its tone.

Also new: Apple says it’s rolling out Genmoji, a new feature that will generate emoji-like reactions on the fly so that when you can’t find the one you want, you can simply have the AI create it for you. Likewise, a new image generation feature is coming to iOS 18 called Image Playground. Apple says the feature works across multiple apps, but it also has its own app of the same name. Additionally, it will allow developers to access an API to include Image Playground in their devices.

Finally, Apple is also bringing AI to the Photos app. You can already search for photographed objects in your library, but Apple says it’s improving the way that works in the future, so you can search for things like a person doing cartwheels. It also added features comparable to Google’s Magic Eraser, such as the ability to erase a person from a photo.

Confidentiality at the heart of AI made in Apple

Of course, with the increasing use of AI, the question of data privacy arises. Apple, which has always focused on protecting the privacy of its users, wanted to reassure them. The company says its AI features will be processed on the device to keep information private. But you will need an A17 Pro or M series chip to take advantage of it.

But when AI features need to go to the cloud, Apple says it will go to what it calls “Private Cloud” and the data will never be stored on servers, and Apple says it won’t be able to never access it. Independent experts will verify that Apple’s claims are true, he said.

Devices compatible with Apple Intelligence

To benefit from Apple Intelligence, you will need a device equipped with an A17 Pro or M series chip. iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, iPad and Mac with Apple M1, M2 and M3 will therefore be compatible with these new features.

Here are the chips that can do local AI

It is important to note that Apple Intelligence, including the new Siri, will initially only be available in English. You will therefore have to wait for a later update to benefit from this functionality in other languages.

To benefit from Apple Intelligence, you will also need to have the latest version of Apple’s operating system.namely iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia.

It’s also important to note that some Apple Intelligence features will require an internet connection to work properly. Indeed, when AI functionalities need to go to the cloud, Apple uses what it calls “Cloud Private” to ensure data confidentiality. And, obviously, ChatGPT will also require internet to work.
