In response to the rising cost of energy, all train ticket and season ticket prices have been reviewed. Some prices will be blocked, others increased.
Changes effective from January. On Friday November 18, the SNCF announced the changes which would come into effect from next year on its network. The reason is rising energy prices. In addition to train tickets, subscriptions were also analyzed to assess whether prices were going to be blocked or, on the contrary, increased. “Between the explosion in energy prices (+180%) and inflation on other items, our costs will increase by 13%”justified Christophe Fanichet, CEO of SNCF Voyageurs, reports BFM TV.
The prices of tickets purchased at the last minute, the most popular journeys, professional journeys (Pro Business in 1st class, Liberty fare, fares offered to companies), the Max active subscription (home-work by TGV ) and Intercités journeys also go increase by 5%subject to validation by the State, reports France Blue. Conversely, TGV Inoui, purchased in advance, Ouigo, the maximum fares guaranteed by the Avantage card, Max young subscriptions and senior subscriptions at 79 euros per month, will be subject to a tariff shield . As for the TER, the regional trains, it will come back regions to decide whether or not prices will be increased.

New exchange and cancellation fees
Apart from the purchase price of train tickets or advantage cards, other procedures will also be subject to the increase. Indeed, less than a week before departure, the cancellation or modification of a ticket will now cost 19 euros. “The objective is to release the places early enough for other customers to buy them”, explained Alain Krakovitch, director of TGV-Intercités, taken over by France Bleu. The railway company hopes to end a trend of booking several trains in advance before canceling them, resulting in trains being sold out when they are not.
