Are you careful about the composition of your cosmetics? Here are three products you shouldn’t buy from Lidl, according to UFC-Que Choisir.

Lidl has carved out a place for itself on the shelves of French women and men. And for good reason: with its cosmetic products, the brand shows that it is not impossible to combine low prices and good quality. But according to UFC-Que Choisir, not all care at Lidl is created equal. Indeed, the magazine Pleine Vie has experience scanning products of the Cien brand, distributed by the supermarket, to find out its toxicity thanks to the QuelProduit application, created by UFC-Que Choisir. Results ? While most of the formulas are safe for health and skin, three stand out.

Pleine Vie points first to the Cien Sun 50 fps child sunscreen. This contains octocrylene, a sun filter present in many products. According to a study published in the scientific journal Chemical Research in Toxicology, this compound turns over time into benzophenone, an endocrine disruptor, potentially carcinogenic.

According to an article published on the UFC-Que Choisir website, octocrylene is also probably an endocrine disruptor. “On the other hand, for lack of sufficiently solid studies, we did not consider it harmful to health.“, however note the publication. But that’s not all: octocrylene is also bad for the environment, it is not very biodegradable and toxic for the aquatic environment. Protecting yourself from the sun is very important, but it is best to do so while respecting the environment.
The same goes for the Classic Cream face cream, also pinned for the presence of octocrylene.

The third product? Liquid soap with aloe vera, still from the Cien brand. It contains propylparaben, considered to be an endocrine disruptor. It is also prohibited in products for babies intended that do not rinse.

Cien deodorant, acclaimed by UFC-Que Choisir

If the composition of some Cien cosmetics leaves something to be desired, this is not the case for all. The Invisible deodorant garnered honors from UFC-Que Choisir in May 2021, when the magazine unveiled its ranking of the best anti-perspirant deodorants. That of Lidl obtained the score of 15/20 and placed on the second step of the podium thanks to its composition and its attractive price of 0.70 euros. “He is riding the wave of anti-fingerprint and long-lasting products, his two main claims: “invisible”, “48 h” but also “alcohol-free”, Lidl, definitely still in tune with the times, does not forget that the ingredients are a criterion of choice for the consumer“, writes UFC-Que Choisir.
