here is the 100% electric and convertible version, with a little disappointment

After the concept car presented in New York last year, Mini officially unveils the Cooper SE Cabriolet, a model limited to only 999 copies, but above all with too low a range for a modern electric car.

In July 2022, Mini presented a sympathetic Cooper SE Cabriolet concept car in 100% electric. Some months later, the British manufacturer unveils the production version with, on the program, few changes compared to the concept car, but also compared to the classic version not discoverable.

The new Mini Cooper SE Convertible is available in colors called “Enigmatic Black” and “White Silver”. The door handles, the side scoops and the bezel of the optics are in “Resolute Bronze” in order to contrast with the body color.

This version is distinguished by black Mini logos and “x/999” lettering on the door sill and side scoops. The car is a limited edition only 999 copies. The 17-inch alloy wheels are made from recycled aluminum and are exclusive to this model.

The most attractive Mini?

Inside, we find sports and heated seats with “Mini Yours Leather Lounge” upholstery. This convertible version is almost identical to the classic version, with a Nappa leather steering wheel, black lacquered surfaces and yellow (or green, it depends) details referring to its 100% electric motorization.

The infotainment system is still in the center of the dashboard, while a head-up display completes the package. Each model is equipped with active cruise control and all the features of the Mini Driving Assistant package.

Negative point, however,The boot capacity has been reduced from 210 liters only 160 liters for the convertible. And this is unfortunately not the only data that has been reduced with this transition to the convertible.

A very reduced autonomy

Indeed, if, under the hood, there is no change, the weight gain and the aerodynamics of this model reduce the autonomy quite considerably. Estimated battery life of 32.6 kWh is only 201km under the WLTP cycle, i.e. about twenty kilometers less than the classic version. That is a correct consumption of 16 kWh / 100 km.

The Mini Cooper SE Convertible is powered by an electric motor positioned at the front of 184 hp. The 0 to 100 km/h is shot in 7.3 seconds.

On the other hand, if there is one thing that will not decrease, it is the price, since the Mini Cooper SE Convertible will certainly be exchanged against, at least, 40,000 euros, excluding ecological bonus. As a reminder, the classic Mini Cooper SE is marketed in France from 36,400 euros, excluding the ecological bonus of 5,000 euros currently in force.

Test of the Mini Cooper SE: what is the most chic of electric city cars worth?

With more than 220 kilometers of autonomy under the WLTP cycle, a power of 184 horsepower and 270 Nm, and a temperament announced in line with the other Minis, this 100% electric version is full of promise… for those…
