More than 60 years after the mythical interpretation of Romy Schneider in the saga “Sissi”, a new series on the famous Empress of Austria will see the light of day. We tell you a little more.

Romy Schneider marked entire generations by playing Elizabeth of Bavaria, the essential Sissi, Empress of Austria. While, since April 2020, Netflix is ​​preparing a series again highlighting the journey of this woman, another production is launched on the subject. Berlin-based company Story House will be at the helm with Sven Bohse and screenplay, Andreas Gutzeit.

Casting side, we already know who will have the heavy task of taking over the role of Romy Schneider: Swiss-American actress Dominique Devenport will be Sissi’s new face. She confided her enthusiasm through a press release published by Hollywood Reporter : “When I think of Sissi, the first thing that comes to mind is a statue enthroned above everyone, and surrounded by many myths. I am very grateful to be the new Sissi and to be able to show what kind of person she was: a young woman with big dreams, strong emotions and ready to fight for her vision. ” As for the role of François-Joseph de Habsbourg, her husband, it will be entrusted to the German actor Jannik Schümann.

But beware, this already eagerly awaited series will be different from the films of our childhood. We can discover how the Empress of Austria fought against conventions. Moritz von Kruedener, Managing Director of Beta Film Production, revealed: “Sissi is a timeless story, a young liberal woman struggling for her independence in a rather hostile environment. It seems like history is repeating itself. Today she could be interviewed by Oprah Winfrey.”
