We were waiting for it, here it is! The Freebox V9 is therefore called the Freebox Ultra. We take stock of the new developments.
The most powerful Freebox ever created
A Freebox is a router, so we expect good internet performance when adopting a new box. With this Freebox Ultra, 100% fiber (goodbye ADSL), Free sets the bar very high on this point. Of course, the downstream speed does not change (8 Gbps), but the upstream speed also increases to 8 Gbps (compared to 700 Mbps currently). This is the only offer currently available to offer such a speed in upload.
But what is the limit of this 10G offer? According to Free, it is available throughout the country and therefore concerns 35 million households.
To take advantage of this, you can obviously use a wired network thanks to its four 2.5G Ethernet ports, but also using a second SFP port (10G) dedicated to the local network. And of course, for those who prefer wireless, the Freebox Ultra includes the best Wi-Fi available, Wi-Fi 7 (6 Gbps).
Coupled with the new mesh repeater (also Wi-Fi 7 compatible) using the current design, the Freebox can therefore cover a large area.
Finally, note the presence of an M.2 slot to add an internal NVMe SSD to the box.
An Ultra eco-responsible Freebox
Impossible to launch a tech product in 2024 without talking about the ecological aspect. In addition to its eco-responsible creation, designed for easy repair (no glue for example), the Freebox Ultra includes well-thought-out options.
Normally, the Freebox Ultra consumes as much as the Freebox Pop (9.9 W). And to reduce consumption, an Eco Wi-Fi mode allows you to automatically disconnect unused bands. Finally, the Total Standby option (automatically synchronized on the repeaters) allows an energy saving of 95% (0.5 W only) and can be programmed when you do not need your network (at night for example) .
Its on/off button also allows you to completely turn off the Freebox Ultra when you leave home.
Content galore
In the Freebox Ultra offer, we find all the content already present in the Delta: Oqee, TV, 280 channels, Free Ligue 1, Netflix, Prime Video… The offer also adds some new features: Universal+, Disney+ and the Canal+ channel , a first.
The price of the Freebox Ultra
“ Who can afford to pay 141.92 euros per month? » asked Xavier Niel, adding the price of all the TV services mentioned above and the average price of a fiber package. The Freebox Ultra offer will therefore cost 49.99 euros per month for one year, then 59.99 euros thereafter.
As for those who do not want streaming services, Free also offers the Freebox Ultra Essentiel at 39.99 euros per month for one year, then 49.99 euros. All these offers will be available today (January 30) at 2 p.m.
Please note that the TV box is not obligatory and can be ordered later. A Pocket Wi-Fi is also included to connect to 4G before installing fiber (200 GB).
Finally, Free includes four telephone plans discounted at 9.99 euros per month for one year, then 15.99 euros per month instead of 19.99 euros.
