Microsoft is working on an “improvement” to File Explorer and the Gallery of Windows 11.
This focuses mainly on images and photos, and intends to offer a more efficient display and more intuitive navigation.
An easier-to-navigate File Explorer
Inspired by a photo gallery on a smartphone or the Microsoft Photos application, Windows 11 File Explorer will soon be enhanced with an additional feature. A Gallery option has indeed been discovered in preview. It will be accessible through the right sidebar of the Explorer.
Activating this option will display all the images and photos, and will facilitate navigation within the gallery. It will indeed be possible to sort them by date or by an integrated search bar. The thing was already more or less possible on the Microsoft operating system, but should be a bit more intuitive.
Especially since this new feature should also be optimized for touch devices. Moreover, it should encompass not only images and photos stored locally, but also on OneDrive.
Microsoft is exploring several avenues for improvement
Such an improvement to Windows 11 File Explorer is part of a series of additions in this direction from Microsoft. We have already been entitled to the integration of tabs to manage files more easily. This feature was also inspired by Microsoft Edge in order to offer a coherent ecosystem.
Explorer has also hosted a “Home” sidebar that includes access to “This PC” among other things. Access to OneDrive has also been made easier, which adds further grist to the mill for similar integration in the upcoming new Gallery option.
In short, nothing fundamentally revolutionary, knowing that most of these elements have already existed at one time or another in the long history of Windows. Still, a more intuitive use is always welcome… if only Windows 11 could be a bit more stable.
