Here is the Jeep Recon, an electric 4×4 that goes everywhere, without a door or a roof

Jeep is accelerating its electrification and unveiling the Recon, a large electric SUV that will see the light of day in 2024 in the United States, before arriving here. It could then replace the current Wrangler.

It’s been a while since we knew that Jeep was preparing a new electric model. Last July, the American firm even unveiled some images of it, in the form of fake spyshots. It was then the new Avenger, a 100% electric compact SUV just unveiled and officially launched in Europe in the coming weeks. But the manufacturer obviously does not want to stop there.

An electric off-roader

At the same time, the firm, which will have to become 100% electric from 2035 in accordance with European Union directives, has unveiled no less than two other models. The first is the Wagoneer S, which stands out with a new style and 600 horsepower for a range of approximately 650 kilometers on a single charge. But another model was also made official last night, again powered by an electric motor. This is the Recon, a large SUV which should notably stand out for its crossing capabilities.

If the press release of the mark does not give many details about it, explains however that this newcomer will be equipped with “ real crossing capabilities thanks to the Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management systemelectric axle locking technology (e-locker), underbody protection, tow hooks and specific off-road tires“.

Christian Meunier, boss of Jeep also declared that the 4X4 ” has the ability to traverse the highly regarded Rubicon Trail, one of the toughest trails in the United States, and reach the end of the trail with enough range to return to town to recharge“.

A replacement all found?

Would this electric SUV aim to eventually replace the current Wrangler? This possibility cannot be excluded, while the mythical 4X4 is currently only offered with a 4xe rechargeable hybrid engine.

And apart from the Magneto 2.0 concept unveiled last April, the American brand has never really confirmed that an electric version would see the light of day. Like the Wrangler, this Recon also has doors and a removable roof. On the other hand, no information has been revealed on its technical sheet at the moment.

We only know thatit will be equipped with the latest generation Uconnect system, which includes “ a detailed travel guide to the most notable off-road trails. Reservations will open at the beginning of 2023, while the first deliveries are expected in 2024 for the United States. The SUV will arrive a little later with us. In total, no less than four electric models will see the light of day in the range by 2025.
