fun, news, tips … what else?

This Monday, November 29, the health protocol in schools is experiencing some relief and some strengthening in the face of the resumption of the Covid-19 epidemic.

Notice to all parents. While the fifth wave of Covid-19 is in full swing and the South African variant Omicron worries all countries, the Government of Emmanuel Macron has established a new health protocol in schools which takes effect from this Monday November 29. The objective: to limit the number of class closings. We will detail the new measures that will undoubtedly affect your child’s school life.

1 positive case, the whole class tested

Before, as soon as a positive case for Covid-19 was detected in a kindergarten or primary school, the latter was closed. The new health protocol has withdrawn this measure. From now on, from the first positive case for Covid-19, all students in this class must perform a PCR test or an antigen test. This test, which will be free, must be carried out by the legal guardians of the children or by a laboratory which will come directly to the school concerned. Only positive students will have to isolate themselves at home, the others will be able to come back to the school benches. Please note, a certificate on the honor of the legal guardian will no longer be valid. In addition, for students aged 3 to 6, a negative saliva test must be presented to the teacher in order to be able to return to class.

Closing of a class only if several cases

If only one student is positive, the class does not close. On the other hand, if several cases are detected in the same class, the Regional Health Agency will decide to close the class which will remain closed for a period of seven days.

And in middle and high schools?

In secondary schools, colleges and high schools, nothing has changed in the health protocol already in force. If a case of Covid is detected in a classroom, contact case students without full vaccination will have to remain in isolation for seven days. They will be able to follow the courses remotely, while their comrades with a complete vaccination will follow the face-to-face courses.

2 self-tests per week for 6th year students

As announced last Thursday by Jean-Michel Blanquer on France Inter, 6th grade students must now perform two self-tests per week. A measure that applies to these children, generally under 12 years old, not eligible for vaccination against Covid-19. These self-tests will be provided next week by the National Education, and each college student will receive a box of 10. The ministry announced to AFP that these two self-tests will not be “Not obligatory”.

The rest of the measures still relevant

If these new health measures take effect from this Monday, November 29, the other precautions already in place and the barrier gestures remain relevant. Thus, ventilation and washing of hands is reinforced, the wearing of a mask remains compulsory for all students and staff from the CP, the most affected surfaces are disinfected several times a day and indoor sports activities may have take place on condition that physical distancing is appropriate and that it is not contact sport.
