This is an unexpected announcement. This Thursday the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire indicated that the People’s Savings Booklet (LEP), reserved for the most modest households, will see its remuneration increase from 6.1% today to 6% from August 1, 2023 .

And it’s a surprise because its calculation formula predicted that the rate should rise to 5.6% due to the slowdown in inflation. A helping hand intended to boost this savings product which benefits nearly 10 million households while more than 18 million are eligible.

A new ceiling

But another gesture caught the eye. The LEP ceiling will increase from 7700 to 10000 euros, as recommended by the Governor of the Banque de France. A reversal of the situation since questioned by MoneyVox on this subject last summer, he had felt that it was not a priority.

Such a difference which became difficult to understand when the average outstanding amount on the LEP was of 5600 euros in 2021. As a result, half of the LEPs are now at the ceiling according to the Banque de France.

But the deal will therefore change since the ceiling will pass 10,000 euros. According to a recent YouGov survey for MoneyVox, 68% of French people also wanted the LEP ceiling to be raised.
