For the moment, only Bérénice (Bérénice Tannenberg), who understood what was hidden behind her friend’s retching and vomiting, is aware of this pregnancy that Carla seems determined to hide from the rest of the family. Auguste Armand Institute.
But knowing the writers of Here It All Begins, there is no doubt that things will get complicated and that this pregnancy will not be a smooth ride for Carla.
“We didn’t choose Carla by chance to tell the story of this pregnancy”
“There are several things behind Carla’s pregnancy”explains Sarah Farahmand, the producer of Here it all begins, met at the La Rochelle Fiction Festival, when asked if the idea for the authors was in particular to evoke the difficulty of being pregnant so young, then that you follow a stressful culinary course, in one of the most renowned culinary schools in the world.
“There is a social theme already: what does it mean and imply to want a child when you are 18? And to want to keep it, and to be sure of that? And then, yes, well Of course, when you’re a student and you’re ambitious, not wanting to make a choice, that says something. It’s an important theme for women today not to choose between professional life and private life, not to sacrifice one or the other. But there, for Carla, at 18, it is increased. The obstacles are multiplied. But what is certain is that we did not choose Carla by chance”.
“It’s very interesting that this pregnancy concerns this character”adds Othman Mahfoud, the writing director of Here it all begins. “Carla is seen a bit as the bitch of the new promo. She has a little bitchy side, but above all she is someone who is very colorful, who is in appearance, who has a very bourgeois side. There are lots of things that mean that the fact that it is her will create conflicts, including for herself.”.

The thinking heads of the TF1 soap opera assure us: this pregnancy will allow us to discover new aspects of Carla’s personality. And the character played by Aaricia Lemaire is brought to have an important trajectory and destiny within Here it all begins. Which we didn’t necessarily suspect when she arrived to take the entrance exam for the institute.
“This plot allows us to discover another side of Carla’s character”continues Othman Mahfoud, who co-created the series and supervises its writing. “Until now, we’ve seen her in a fairly egocentric light. But when we learn that she’s pregnant, we understand that she’s already making a choice. It makes the character much more complex than she initially thought. It seems like it. It’s a bit like what we always do in Here it all begins, we add layers as we go along. And what we can tell you is that this is a character who will have a great destiny within the series”.
What does Othman Mahfoud imply when he mentions a “great destiny” for Carla? Do viewers already know, without knowing it, the baby’s father? Or are Carla’s biological parents – since the young woman revealed that she was adopted – are they characters already present in the series? For now, the mystery remains, but the production promises surprises to come.
“Carla seems to be a bit of a caricature”confides Sarah Farahmand. “She’s beautiful, she’s brilliant, everyone looks at her, she seems to be extremely confident in herself. But in reality, she’s going to do something that takes her out of the box with this pregnancy. And so, from the beginning, it tells us that she is not the one we expected. And you will see that she will never cease to surprise us and that she will have a lot of fragility and humanity. And it’s true that she has a busy year ahead of her (laughs)”.
A very strong friendship that will mark the series
To support her in the process that awaits her, Carla will obviously be able to count on Bérénice, her ally within the new class of students, who will do everything to help her hide her pregnancy. Which should quickly arouse the suspicions of Constance (Sabine Perraud).
And if we are to believe the statements of Sarah Farahmand and Othman Mahfoud, this very strong friendship which is being formed between the two girls will be an important element in the weeks and months to come.
“These are two personalities who have nothing to do with each other and who nevertheless find each other, respect each other and protect each other”explains the producer of Here it all begins. “Bérénice will never stop trying to bring Carla back on the right path when she strays a little too far, while having infinite tenderness for her. And Carla will always protect Bérénice and always take her side”.
“Bérénice is a very endearing character, in whom we can find ourselves. Many people suffer from school phobia, or, without going as far as phobia, may in any case have had difficult studies, may not have felt at home. comfortable in a community. I think a lot of viewers will say to themselves “I would have liked to have had a Carla with me, to give me this strength”. It’s a really very, very beautiful friendship.”.
