While the reveal of the next Black Ops is already available, our journalists were able to get their hands on the latest opus of the Call of Duty franchise. It could well be that the license comes back more dynamic than ever. Whether you’re a veteran or a newcomer, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is sure to have something for everyone.

Welcome additions

If the Call of Duty franchise seemed redundant to you, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 should bring some pep back to Activision Blizzard’s license. The development teams at the Treyarch studio in charge of the project have redoubled their efforts to achieve this. And it starts with a new movement system called “omnimovement”. Behind this somewhat special term lies a total overhaul of the movement and animation system. A promising addition which will allow the title to be more realistic than its predecessors. It is now possible to dive like Max Payne and sprint in all directions, with sliding still being part of the game. Added to this is an overall improvement in the game’s accessibility, offering players the ability to completely modify the HUD and optimize it for players with disabilities.

Treyarch and Raven Software have also worked together to produce a story that seems faithful to its predecessors (from the Black Ops franchise), famous historical figures like Saddam Hussein or Margaret Thatcher will appear in this campaign. The campaign will take place in the early 90s, you will be immersed in the middle of the Gulf War, sailing between different places such as Kuwait or Iraq.

Every Call of Duty player has a favorite mission. When we wanted to make Black Ops 6, we aimed to design missions so incredible that they would be ingrained in memories. We bring back that blockbuster action movie feel at every stage of the story. Jon Zuk – Associate Creative Director at Raven Software.

Finally, the return of Zombie mode has indeed been confirmed by the developers. 2 maps will be available when the game is released and for the moment, little has been revealed to us about this mode. But it is expected that more information will be provided in the coming months. Same for Warzone.

From developers to small onions

Since Modern Warfare (2019) and the arrival of a new graphics engine (IW 8.0) for the franchise, we imagine that each studio has been able to refine its own development tools in order to obtain a level of realism never seen in Call of Duty. This is exactly what happened at Treyarch, the visual fidelity goes up a notch thanks to the photogrammetry of the equipment and characters that will be present in the game. Small details like the dirtiness of the operator or facial expressions will be more marked than in previous episodes.

Our team can’t wait to show you the beautiful characters we’ve made. Thanks to photogrammetry, the equipment was acquired, digitized and incorporated on each of our agents. For our faces, a dynamic and direct analysis of spontaneous performances was done and produced to make the moments of emotion faithful to real life. (…) There is dirt under their nails, oil on their sweaty palms, because they are running everywhere. Sunni Han – Associate Art Director at Treyarch Studios

While the previous game (Modern Warfare 3) added the weapons from its little brother Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 does not include the weapons and operators from previous installments. A completely new weaponry will emerge with a wide variety of equipment. The game offers a look between what could be described as “real” and “hyper-real”, thought of as an intense action film by the developers. The visual effects plan to be stunning and Treyarch wants its title to be as realistic as possible, ranging from the influence of the wind on environmental elements to the weight of the characters.

See you on October 25 with the release of Black Ops 6 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series to make sure!
