Here’s how much this new mandatory registration card will cost you and when you should apply for it

But you probably don’t know that a new law came into force on June 1, 2024. And it could cost you dearly. Because it provides for a new registration card for 1.8 million French people. A new registration card to request

Since June 1st, the 3DS lawadopted on January 4, 2022, came into force. It is part of the decentralization law and its article 169 may cause a change of address for some. Because many public roads did not yet have names in France. These are municipalities with fewer than 2,000 inhabitants that have updated themselves to remedy this, those with more having already been subject to this obligation since 2015. This assigns numbers to all homes and will facilitate the work of delivery people in particular.

You should therefore inquire with your local council, but they should have already notified you. And if you do need to change your address, you will need to think about changing your gray card. From the time you are assigned your new address, you have one month to make the change. To do this, simply go to the website of theANTS (National Agency for Secure Titles) registration.ants.gouv and go to the “Change the address on your registration certificate” section. The main steps are then: “New request” then the selection of “Registration” and “change the address on your registration certificate”. You will need your old registration certificate, proof of address less than 6 months old and an identity document.

How much does it cost to change your registration document?

How much will it cost you? This is a label that is placed on the registration document and is therefore free. Be careful though if this is not your first time but your fourth changeyou will have to pay the sum of 2.76 euros. If you have a registration plate that dates from 2009 or earlier, this is a FNI plate which no longer complies with the new standards. You will therefore automatically have a IF Vand it will cost you between 25 and 50 euros. The amount depends on your car model and region.

You can make the request as soon as you have your change. The earlier will be the best since from the assignment of your address you have one month to do it. If you are fined with a registration card with the wrong address, you risk a traffic ticket 4th class and a fixed fine of 135 euros or a reduced fine of 90 euros.
