Faced with soaring fuel prices, the government has long implemented a fuel discount that directly applies the pump to the price per litre. Starting the January 16 9 a.m. and until February 28, using a form put online on the impots.gouv.fr website, regular users of a car to go to work can claim compensation in the amount of 100 euros, only once a year.

To claim it, you will need your tax number and license plate number of the vehicle being driven. It will then be necessary complete a self-declaration indicating that you need your car to go to work.

The 100 euros will then be paid by the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP) to the bank account within 8 days and from January 27 for the first files processed by the tax services.

This new aid targets 10 million of the poorest workers and represents a discount of around 10 centimes per liter at the pump if you drive around 12,000 kilometers per year, according to government calculations.

Who can benefit from it?

Taxpayers established in metropolitan France, Mayotte, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique and La Runion, and taxable in France for the year 2021. Applicants must have at least 16 years old as of December 31, 2021 and have declared, for 2021 income, earned income in one of the following sections of the income tax return:

  • all salaries and wages and similar income (excluding unemployment and early retirement);
  • industrial and commercial profits (BIC) micro-entrepreneurs or professionals;
  • non-commercial profits (BNC) micro-entrepreneurs or professionals;
  • agricultural profits (BA).

What are the income requirements?

This aid is reserved for the 10 million workers on the lowest incomes, via aid paid in one go, for 2023, for households located in the first five deciles of income, i.e. a reference tax income of less than 14,700 euros in 2021 for each tax share of your household. That is to say precisely 14,700 euros of annual RFR for a single person, 29,400 euros of RFR for a childless couple, 36,750 euros for a couple with one child, etc.

Which vehicle is eligible for the bonus?

The request must be made for a 2, 3 or 4-wheel vehicle, internal combustion engine and/or electric, used for professional purposes including home/work journeys and regularly insured on the date of the request. However, heavy motor quadricycles, agricultural vehicles, heavy goods vehicles and company or service vehicles are excluded.

Additional conditions to respect

A claimant can only receive one compensation. In addition, the same vehicle cannot give rise to the payment of several indemnities. Finally, those liable for wealth tax for 2021 are not eligible for the payment of compensation.
