50% of women feel discomfort during sex and a third of them are not sexually satisfied, according to a study.

Have you ever had pain during sex? Is this feeling of discomfort even systematic? You are not alone. According to a recent study by the condom brand Durex, nearly half of women would suffer discomfort during sex because they do not know what “normal” sensations are, reports The Independent. This survey, carried out on 2000 women, also reveals that one in six, that is to say 16% of them, suffers from sexual discomfort “often” or “all the time”.

This feeling of discomfort during sex is mainly due to vaginal dryness in 46% of cases, a lack of arousal (44%) and for 13% of the women questioned to insufficiently lubricated condoms. And who says pain during sex says very limited pleasure. A third of the participants in the study say they are not “completely satisfied” with their sexual experiences.

Know your body

Lack of sex education is also a factor to be taken into account. And for good reason: if we have never been taught what to expect when having sex or that intercourse should not be painful, how do we know that there is a problem? “Knowing your body and knowing what is normal and what is not is key to being able to enjoy sex,” says a spokesperson for Durex. “Many women have unsatisfying sexual experiences because they are not sure how to remedy” this awkward feeling and “deal with it.”

It is therefore very important to listen to yourself, to use lubricants adapted to your needs, to take the time to do foreplay and especially never to force yourself. And if the pain persists, an appointment with the doctor or the gynecologist is to be considered.
