Here’s why the iPhone SE 4 could really hurt Android

Despite its probable move upmarket, the iPhone SE 4 would not suffer too brutal a price increase. A new rumor suggests that the device would arrive on the American market for less than $500.

What will be the price positioning of the iPhone SE 4? If the question will remain unanswered until Apple has formalized this new model, new rumors give us an interesting order of magnitude. Faced with an iPhone SE 3 available from 429 dollars (excluding taxes) across the Atlantic, and from 529 euros in our latitudes, the price of the iPhone SE 4 would remain contained. We learn from a leaker cited by WCCFTech that Apple would stick to a price between 429 and 500 dollars for this new version of the device.

Impossible to verify at this stage, this information deserves to be taken with all the necessary hindsight, but it is in any case in line with The Information’s predictions. Very serious and often well informed, the American media claimed a few weeks ago that the iPhone SE 4 would indeed remain the most accessible iPhone in the range.

Previously, however, a price of around 600 euros had been anticipated, including in our columns, and we will recall that the iPhone 13 (still in the Apple catalog) is for its part offered from 749 euros. Seeing the iPhone SE 4 being placed at around 100 euros more than its predecessor therefore remains entirely possible.

Stay in the 500 euro segment, with a better equipped iPhone?

That being said, Apple would indeed have every interest in keeping its iPhone SE 4 at an aggressive price to compete decently with the many convincing Android smartphones offered at around 500 euros.

As a reminder, the iPhone SE 4 would seriously move upmarket compared to the current model. First of all, we would find a largely updated design, with an edge-to-edge screen and a USB-C port (the Lightning connection would thus be definitively abandoned on the iPhone). On the front, the device would also swap its TouchID sensor for a front camera compatible with FaceID. The latter would be integrated either in a small notch or squarely in a pill, like what we find on all iPhone 15s.

Some sources also suggest that Apple would opt for an OLED panel instead of the LCD technology used until now on the iPhone SE. There are finally chances that the brand will integrate a powerful SoC into its SE 4, capable of providing features based on AI. A point on which the iPhone SE 4 could also gain the upper hand over the competition.
