Hertz and Uber announce the deployment of 25,000 Tesla and Polestar

In 2020, Hertz distinguished itself with the massive purchase of 100,000 Tesla Model 3s which will be delivered next year to electrify its fleet. A few months later, the rental company announced that in addition to adding Teslas to its inventory, it had reached an agreement with Uber to offer access to electric vehicles to its drivers. Today, Hertz confirms that nearly 50,000 Uber drivers have rented a Tesla through the program.

Building on this success, the car rental company is now partnering with Uber to bring electric vehicles to Europe: “Hertz and Uber announce a European expansion of their North American partnership, with the availability of 25,000 electric vehicles for Uber drivers in European capitals by 2025. A wide range of electric vehicles will be offered, including Tesla and Polestar”the statement said.

After the 2020 contract with Tesla, Hertz also added Tesla Model Ys and Polestar 2s to its fleet. The European expansion press release says these three EVs will still be the main ones deployed in the operation.

Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, comments: “As the world’s largest mobility platform, we know our impact goes beyond our technology. Climate change is the most pressing global challenge that we must all tackle together – it’s time to step up. Expanding our partnership with Hertz in Europe will significantly boost our transition to zero emissions, helping drivers reduce their operating costs and cleaning up urban transport. Our goal is to become a 100% electric platform in Europe by 2030.”
