Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is considered one of the NFL’s most popular players. Then he will test positive for the coronavirus. And a world falls apart. He destroys his image with bizarre statements about his “immunization”. There is criticism from all sides and advertising partners are turning away.
Aaron Rodgers appeared at the Halloween party in a black suit. Littered with blood, like John Wick from the movie of the same name, Rodgers came as a killer. The quarterback from the Green Bay Packers did not wear a face mask despite the lack of a vaccination, as did at media meetings. After a positive corona test and strange statements, there is now criticism.
The renowned TV journalist Steven A. Smith, avowed fan of the athlete, spoke up. “Aaron Rodgers is a liar. Period,” said Smith, “He lied to his team with a smile on his face. Now there’s a question mark over his character.”
The background is that football star Rodgers wanted to give the impression that he had received the vaccination. He was “immunized”, the playmaker from the professional league NFL had declared. “It wasn’t a ruse or a lie – it was the truth,” Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee Show – during his quarantine.
Rodgers, one of the league’s most popular players to date, is fighting for his reputation. “I am not a vaccine opponent. I am a critical spirit,” he said on the radio show. He defended himself against “blatant lies”, spoke of a “witch hunt” and said that he had got medical advice from Joe Rogan. I’m sorry, what?
“If he has to have an open heart operation …”
Rogan is a comedian, podcaster and vaccine opponent, he already had Corona. He recommended that the professional take ivermectin, a medicine that is used primarily against parasites in animals. An alternative method, part of an immunization protocol, according to Rodgers.
That stunned many, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. “Instead of contacting immunologists, he turned to vaccination opponent Joe Rogan,” criticized the basketball legend: “If he has to undergo open heart surgery, does he give the scalpel to romances writers because they are so familiar with matters of the heart?”
The NFL has now taken on the matter because Rodgers has violated the protocol several times. Other clubs are complaining about corona policy in Green Bay. But there will hardly be more than fines for the player and the franchise.
The US company Prevea Health, which offers health services in Wisconsin, has already acted and has ended its collaboration with Rodgers. If the football star can leave isolation on Saturday, he should play against the Seattle Seahawks again on Sunday. Up until then, there was hardly any talk about sport when it came to Rodgers.
