Mobilized at the scene of a shooting in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, a police mother discovered with horror that the victim was none other than her 20-year-old son.
It is the WLBT channel which relates the facts. On Sunday January 2, Officer Laquandia Cooley was on duty when his brigade was deployed to the scene of a shooting in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. She was far from expecting what she would find out. Arriving on Larkin Street, where the gunshots had been heard, the mother of the family recognized in horror the face of one of the victims: her 20-year-old son, Charles Stewart Jr., shot dead in the head.
“When I get out of the car, I look and I say to myself ‘He’s my son, he’s my son’, she tells WLBT. I literally fell apart, you know? I mean, why? Who would do that to my son? I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I saw my son lying on the ground, dead. It was panic. It was just, it was just too much. It’s traumatic for the whole family. We’re trying to move forward day by day, trying to figure out why this happened and who is responsible. ” Charles Stewart Jr. had a 17-year-old brother and a 22-year-old sister. Devastated by the loss of her younger brother, the latter spoke on the social network Facebook: “I’m lost, she wrote. How can you live after losing a brother? I try to be stronger but I become weak, I will never be able to see my brother again. Who did that, it’s wrong, why lord, why?“
The investigation entrusted to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation
An investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the young man’s death and to find the perpetrator of the shot which cost him his life. Due to the involvement of an officer from Hazlehurst in the case, the investigation will be conducted by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
