DUBAI – Hezbollah announced on Friday that it had carried out strikes on three towns in northern Israel, Abirim, Neve Ziv and Manot.
These unprecedented attacks were launched in retaliation for the Israeli strike that killed a commander of the elite Radwan division on Thursday, the Shiite movement, supported by Iran and allied with Hamas, said in a statement.
The Israeli army said Thursday it had killed two commanders and several fighters from the elite formation following a strike in southern Lebanon.
One of the commanders killed was Habib Maatouk, two military sources said, adding that the strikes targeted the border villages of Safad El Battikh and Jmaijmeh.
Habib Maatouk had replaced another commander killed in April by an Israeli strike, Ali Ahmed Hassine, the sources added.
