HICP inflation estimated at 9.6% in Germany over one year

BERLIN (Reuters) – Consumer price inflation in Germany decelerated sharply in December year on year, according to the first estimate released on Tuesday by Destatis, the Federal Institute of Statistics.

The price index calculated according to European standards HICP shows a contraction of 1.2% compared to November and a slowdown to 9.6% over one year after respectively zero growth and a gain of 11.3% the previous month.

Economists and analysts polled by Reuters on average forecast a 0.5% decline month-on-month and a slowdown in year-on-year growth to 10.7%, respectively.

The consumer price index calculated according to German standards is down 0.8% over one month, while the increase over one year is 8.6%, against a consensus of -0.3 respectively. % and +9.1%.
