Hidden feature in WhatsApp: How to create your own gifs in no time

WhatsApp had more than 2 billion monthly active users last year who used the messenger to send messages, photos and voice messages. This makes the app one of the most popular apps worldwide.

WhatsApp is particularly popular in Germany. According to a study last year, more than 97 percent of 18 to 29-year-olds used Messenger to exchange information with friends, family and the like.

But not all users are aware of the numerous features that the app offers. For example, users can specifically comment on messages by simply swiping the chat message to the right.

If you don’t just want to send texts, you can create and send photos and videos and, for some time now, GIFs yourself.

gifs (Graphics Ichange fformat) are animated images that are used in all common social media to represent a certain feeling or the punchline of a joke. Most often, short sequences from series, films, TV shows or games are used for this.

In order to be able to send a GIF ready-made GIF on WhatsApp, you have to press the smiley next to the text field. The GIF symbol appears in the lower bar. If you click on it, you can use the magnifying glass function to search for specific keywords and terms and send a suitable GIF.

If you want to create your own GIF, you must proceed as follows:

  1. Select the camera icon in the app and film a very short video.
  2. Before sending, you will see a small GIF icon in the top right corner that you need to select.

Your personal GIF is ready and can be sent to all your contacts.
