Hidden in the delivery instructions was a woman’s appalling distress message

In the United States, a kidnapped young woman asked a restaurant for help using an online meal app. She was then able to be released by the police, notified shortly after the distress message was sent.

A very ingenious cry for help. In New York, a 24-year-old woman was sequestered by a 32 year old man after an alleged sexual assault. According to the local channel WABC, quoting the authorities, the victim had his phone confiscated by his alleged attacker. To be able to recover it, she asked him to allow her to order a dish via theonline meal ordering app Grubhub.

Thus, the young woman ordered a burger and a sandwich on Sunday around five o’clock in the morning in a nearby establishment, the Chipper Truck Café. She took the opportunity to slip a call for help into her instructions: “Please call the police (…). Do it discreetly please”. According to a copy of the receipt obtained by WABC, the victim also requested that agents be present during the delivery.

Suspect arrested by police

As Alice Bermejo, the restaurant’s co-owner, told the channel, restaurant workers “saw the note in the order and called (her) husband“. “They asked ‘What do we do?’ and he said ‘Call the police'”she added.

The police therefore went to the address indicated, in a district of the Bronx, where they were able to arrest the alleged attacker. According to CNN, the latter had come into contact with the young woman through a dating application. According to a police document cited by the same channel, the suspect is now charged with rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse. He was also implicated in another sexual assault committed four days earlier.
