  • “Alf” was canceled on NBC in 1990 after four seasons.
  • “Zero Problemo!” thought Ryan Reynolds and brought the alien from Melmak back to US television.
  • You can also watch Gordon Shumway’s brief return online in Germany.

In the episode “Big Man Now What?” from season 1 of “Alf”, the furry alien is very worried about the security of the earth. Due to the existence of atomic bombs, he fears that his new homeland will suffer a similar fate as his destroyed planet Melmak. Without further ado, Alf radioed President Reagan to warn him against using such a weapon.

This commitment to a nuclear-free world could certainly have earned Alf a role in “Oppenheimer”, but instead Gordon Shumway, the real name of the alien, returns to television in small promotional short films.

Ryan Reynolds gets what he wants

Ryan Reynolds is not only an actor, he also founded his own production company called Maximum Effort and took over the mobile phone company Mint Mobile.

The main reason why we in Germany are aware of any of this is that Reynolds is no slouch when it comes to marketing, the commercials spread worldwide through creativity – even if the advertised products are actually only available in the USA or Canada.

This is also the case with the Maximum Effort Channel, its own TV station, which is similar to the German offer from Pluto TV. There, Reynolds and Maximum Effort are in control of the program, planning the “Alf Caturday Marathon” for July 29, 2023.

In addition to numerous episodes from all four seasons of the cult sitcom, Alf will continue to appear in new commercials promoting Reynolds’ brands and clients of Maximum Effort. Here you can already watch some of these new Alf videos:

So far it is not to be expected that the Maximum Effort Channel will also come to Germany, but thanks to the clips on YouTube you will fortunately not miss Alf’s comeback in this country either.
