Hideo Kojima abandons a project because of a famous Amazon Prime series

Before Death Stranding was released, Hideo Kojima had an idea that will probably never see the light of day. The reason ? A concept much too close to the series The Boys which has just started its season 3 on Amazon Prime Video.

Hideo Kojima always has a lot of ideas in his head and a few years ago he put a project on hold because of his concept. He was indeed too similar to what we see in The Boys, Amazon Prime Video’s superhero series.

Hideo Kojima on a game à la The Boys?

As Season 3 is in full swing on Amazon Prime Video, Hideo Kojima reveals that he came up with such a concept but because of this similarity, he didn’t go any further.

The Boys, which I quit after three episodes of Season 1. I thought I’d watch the rest of the show. I actually watched a few episodes that came out when I was about to start a project that I had been planning for a long time and put on hiatus because the concept was similar. A duo (male/female) with a special team of detectives who, in the shadows, face legendary superheroes. I was thinking of Mads Mikkelson in the lead role.

Farewell, then, to superheroes with Kojima sauce, at least temporarily. The creator and his entire team are already on an Xbox exclusive which would be the horror game Overdose, and surely Death Stranding 2 in terms of the video game part.

And a Marvel movie?

In 2020, Kojima-san was talking to Premiere who wanted to know why the Japanese developer never produced movies. He then replied that it was not the time, but that he would see himself on a low-budget project or even a huge machine like Marvel.

Having created my own studio, I must be able to pay those who work for me. And if I’m shooting a movie, I would have to be totally absent for about a year. We just finished our first game, I have to take a step back and imagine what will come next. But I could make a feature film one day. Certainly on a very small budget, although I would love to tackle something huge like a Marvel movie. How do I put my paw on a big franchise? I know it would be a huge risk, but I’m very interested.

Will he ever realize his dream? We saw him alongside Michael Bay, but without knowing the nature of the meeting. He is also close to Avi Arad who was the producer of various Marvel feature films such as Iron Man, Venom or even Spider-Man: New Generation. A relationship that could be useful to accomplish his goal…

For the past few months, there has been a new Kojima Productions studio in Los Angeles which aims precisely to seize opportunities around films, series and music. But to see the developer on the big screen, he would already have to manage to detach himself from his games and it is not won.
