High demand – chip shortage: “Second-hand car market has been swept clean”

The global shortage of chips and the resulting production problems in the automotive industry are driving the used car market. “The market for used cars up to 5,000 or 6,000 euros has been swept clean,” said Andre Eckert, head of Autoscout24 in Austria. At the same time, used cars are being driven longer, which in turn increases workshop prices. Eckert doesn’t expect any relaxation anytime soon. “Demand remains high, supply is falling,” he said.
