Highlander with Henry Cavill: the director of John Wick has good news for fans

“We have never been so close to the goal!” The reboot of Highlander by the director of John Wick still seems relevant. Here is the latest news from the project that has been in the making for many years…

Highlander Remake News! A little over a year after the announcement of the actor cast for the main role, in this case Henry Cavill, director Chad Stahelski gives some details on the progress of the project to Collider. The latter, very busy with the John Wick franchise, the 4th part of which will be released in March 2023. He is also working on the film adaptation of the video game Ghost of Tsushima.

Despite this very extensive program, Chad Stahelski seems to be progressing on this Highlander remake project that has been in the making for very long years (we give you the recap here).

Here is what the director was able to say in the columns of Collider: “We are in the final adjustments. We know what we want to do. We are in the creative details. We know what we are trying to do. We are just waiting for the click, this moment when we say to ourselves: ‘it’s good, that’s it. Lets’ go‘. But we have never been closer to this goal.

Is Henry Cavill still guaranteed to play the lead role? The director seems to confirm by saying that the actor remains “one of his biggest picks“. A confirmation which is not quite one, because the agenda of the actor could potentially come into conflict with that chosen for the production of the film. Henry Cavill being very much in demand, Chad Stahelski therefore seems to be playing it safe He continues about his choice for the film: “It’s not just about muscles. I think he has an amazing palette and he brings something special. His enthusiasm for the project is great.”

For the record, Henry Cavill had himself shared the news of his arrival on the project in May 2021.

I’ve been a Highlander fan since I was a kid.

“I’ve been a fan of Highlander since I was a kid, from the 80s movies to the TV series, with an actor [Adrian Paul] who looks a lot like one of my brothers”, confides the actor. “I don’t do too badly with swords, and with Chad Stahelski at the wand, it’s an opportunity like no other”continues the actor.

“This deep dive into the history of the franchise, with all the tools at our disposal, is going to make this movie an adventure I’ll never forget (and hope you won’t either)”, he concludes, visibly very enthusiastic.“And as you can see in the photo, I’ve recently delved into my Scottish heritage and started researching it.”

The actor seems very motivated by the idea of playing the immortal warrior Connor McLeod (if the film keeps the name of the hero camped by Christophe Lambert).

SUPERHERO, WITCHER AND… IMMORTAL!

If we rely on his physical performance in the series The Witcher, especially his sword fights, we can only be seduced by the idea of seeing him become the new Highlander. The actor therefore adds a new cult franchise to his hunting board after Superman, Mission Impossible Fallout, The Witcher and Sherlock Holmes (Enola Holmes). All that remains is to know when the filming of the film will finally be able to begin!
