After killing a 25-year-old hiker with a stray bullet during a wild boar hunt in Cantal this Saturday, February 19, the 17-year-old hunter is currently hospitalized in shock.
A new dramatic story. This Saturday, February 19, a 25-year-old young woman was killed by a stray bullet on a hiking trail in Cantal, in Cassaniouze by a 17-year-old hunter who was hunting wild boars. The victim, who was hiking with his companion, was hit around 3 p.m., while on a marked trail. According to information from La Dépêche, Mélodie Cauffet had just moved to a neighboring village and was to celebrate her 26th birthday next month.
Passionate about nature, she was a regular hiker in her region. But the teenager’s stray bullet will have put an end to her young life. Contacted by the local press, the public prosecutor of Aurillac confirmed that the victim “was hit by a shot to the left side of the body” and that she had died on the spot, despite the rescue attempt to resuscitate her. According to the latest information, the shooter had received the necessary training to participate in this hunt and tested negative for narcotics and alcohol.
In shock, the 17-year-old hunter is still hospitalized
But this terrible accident obviously did not leave him unmoved. “In a state of shock”she was hospitalized in a nearby hospital and still could not be heard by the gendarmes of Aurillac in charge of the case, whereasan investigation for manslaughter has been opened. The Minister in charge of Biodiversity, Bérangère Abba, reacted on Twitter, writing: “Today in Cassaniouze, a young hiker died after being accidentally shot by a hunter. An unbearable and unacceptable tragedy. The investigation is underway, the decisions will follow, so that never again. To his family and loved ones, my deepest condolences.”. Suffice to say that France has not finished hearing about this dramatic new story, just two months before the presidential election.
