Hinterthurgau – Wolf tears sheep near the Zurich border – News

  • In Fischingen in Hinterthurgau, a wolf probably killed a sheep on Monday.
  • Employees of the hunting and fishing administration have secured samples for DNA analysis – a few days ago a calf was killed in the region.

There, too, a wolf cannot be ruled out as the cause, said the Thurgau hunting and fishing administration. The case is being clarified by the Center for Fish and Wildlife Medicine in Bern. Animal owners in Thurgau were warned of the wolf by SMS alarm.

The tear marks and paw prints on the killed sheep indicated a high probability of a wolf, it said.

Fourth wolf since 2017

It would be the fourth time that a wolf has been detected in the canton of Thurgau. Three wolves have roamed Thurgau since 2017. Two of them soon migrated to other cantons. The third wolf was killed in 2020 because he was seriously ill. In view of the development of the wolf populations in the Alpine region, migratory wolves must also be expected in Thurgau at any time, writes the canton.
