Hiring still at a high level in the 1st quarter, according to Urssaf

They remain above 2.4 million for the third consecutive quarter.

The number of declarations of hiring for more than a month (excluding temporary workers) fell very slightly in the first quarter (-0.5%), but remained at a high level with more than 2.4 million declarations, indicated Wednesday Urssaf.

In the 4th quarter of 2021, hiring declarations had stabilized (+0.3%) after a sharp increase in the previous quarter, then reaching a “historic peak”, according to data from Urssaf Caisse Nationale (formerly Acoss ). They remain in the 1st quarter of 2022 above 2.4 million for the third consecutive quarter. Hirings on permanent contracts are stable (-0.1% after +2.9%) while those on fixed-term contracts of more than one month are down by 0.9% (after -2.2%). Compared to the last quarter of 2019, just before the outbreak of the Covid-19 crisis, declarations of hiring for more than a month increased by 11.7%.

A higher level in the industry than in 2019

In the 1st quarter of 2022, the evolution of hirings of more than one month is contrasted according to the size of the company: they continue to decrease in companies with less than 20 employees (TPE, -3.9% after -1, 6%) and continued to grow in larger structures (+2% after +1.7%). By sector, declarations of hiring for more than one month increased slightly in industry (+0.6%, after +3.4%), contracted in construction (-3.8%, after -0 .3%) and stabilized in the tertiary sector (-0.2%, after +1.6%). Their level clearly exceeds that recorded in the last quarter of 2019 in industry (+14.3%) and in the tertiary sector (+13%). The gap is much more measured (+0.6%) in construction, a sector which has generally suffered less from the crisis.
