Emmanuel Macron saluted the memory of Elizabeth II, who died Thursday at the age of 96, in a video message. He particularly praised the “wisdom” and “empathy” of the queen.
Queen Elizabeth II died on Thursday at the age of 96, at her Scottish residence in Balmoral. Reactions are multiplying around the world, like those of heads of state, Joe Biden, Justin Trudeau, to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Emmanuel Macron also sent his condolences and also saluted the memory of the queen on Friday in a video message. “Today we are so sad. It is with great sadness that the French people learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” he began.

“His wisdom and empathy have helped us chart a course amid the vagaries of history over the past 70 years. His death leaves us with a sense of emptiness,” he continued. “Millions of people around the world saw the images of her coronation and were immediately captivated by this young queen who already showed such strength and courage. The courage of a life marked by war and soon the courage to defend, from one century to the next, the values of freedom and tenacity”, continued the president.
“For you, she was your queen. For us, she was the Queen. For all of us, she will always be with us. We will commemorate and perpetuate the values that she never ceased to embody and promote: the moral force of democracy and freedom,” he concluded.
