Arriving at the scene of the tragedy, the police had no choice but toshoot the bear out of control.

Very handicapped, the old man tried to save his grandson by throwing an iron bar on the head of the bear. He said the bear briefly released the child before grabbing him a second time. Those are the cries of distress of the child who alerted a neighbour. The latter scared the animal away by shouting and brandishing a pipe.
The population of black bears continues to increase in Connecticut. About 1,000 to 1,200 bears have been counted in the northwestern quarter of the state. Last month, a woman was rushed to hospital after she was attacked by a bear while fixing her hot tub. This incident led authorities to kill the bear and its cubs.
