This Friday, November 12, during a press conference, the public prosecutor of Chartres, Rémi Coutin, took stock of this case which “Touches everyone”.
According to site information Actu Chartres, the mother of the infant, a 39-year-old woman, already a mother of six, was quickly identified by the police, during a thorough investigation which began with “Few clues”. The latter was arrested at her home, along with her companion, before being taken into police custody on October 21. During her hearing, she came back to the reasons that led her to abandon the child. She explains that she hid her pregnancy from her partner and gave birth to the child, alone, on October 11. “The baby has his umbilical cord around his neck, she delivers it, he begins to breathe and cry”, explains the prosecutor. After giving birth, she hides the child “In the trunk of his car”, assuring investigators that she was going to feed him “regularly”. For his part, his companion explained “that in fact he had not realized anything”.
7 years in prison incurred
But then, on October 15, her partner had to borrow the vehicle and she left to hide the child behind the bushes of a park. A place where the baby would have been left all alone “About 45 minutes”, before being discovered by walkers. “She is rather confused in her account because she says she was planning to come and pick him up later but not knowing that he had been found”, inform the prosecutor.
This 39-year-old mom was indicted for “Abandonment of a minor under 15” and “Deprivation of care and support for a minor under 15 years of age by descent”. She faces seven years in prison. The child is considered today as a ward of the nation. He was entrusted to social services.
