his son Arnaud speaks for the first time, “I have a lot of things in mind”

This Thursday, August 31, in an interview with the magazine Ciné-Télé-Revue, Arnaud Poivre d’Arvor, the son of Patrick Poivre d’Arvor broke the silence for the first time regarding the accusations against his father.

Patrick Poivre d’Arvor, is the target of numerous accusations of rape and sexual assault. Since the beginning of the investigation, opened in December 2021, 19 women were heard. Among them, 10 complained. Still presumed innocent, the journalist has never stopped contesting the charges against him. He had been interviewed twice in March by investigators from the Crime Prevention Brigade against the person (BRDP) during a second preliminary investigation.

The first preliminary investigation targeting him was opened in February 2021, after Florence Porcel’s complaint. The author accused Patrick Poivre d’Arvor of having it forced into sexual intercourse in 2004 and fellatio in 2009. Subsequently, 22 other women testified to rape, sexual assault and/or sexual harassment. In June 2021, the investigations had been closed without further action, because the facts denounced were prescribed. Florence Porcel then filed a complaint again, with civil action, to obtain the opening of a new investigation entrusted to the investigating judges. This judicial investigation is still in progress in Nanterre.

“My point of view could be misinterpreted”

His son, Arnaud Poivre d’Arvor had never spoken about the accusations against his father. But, on the occasion of the launch of his show Timed survey on the chain AB3he decided to break the silence for the first time through an interview with the Belgian magazine Cinema-TV-Review. “I never spoke about it, because I think my speech would be inaudible”, he first began.

I have a lot on my mind, but it would be counterproductive to express them. Of course, I am deeply bruised and it is a difficult situation to live with. I risk being criticized and my point of view could be misinterpreted. As I keep my silence and my composure”, he continued. If he did not dwell more on what he thought of the accusations against his father, he spoke however about social networks. Because, the latter can play a sometimes crucial role in this kind of investigation. And, he was very critical.

It’s frightening. This is the real danger. Social media has changed the game and I don’t believe in the return of the pendulum. These pithy judgments can have an influence on certain investigations. The presumption of innocence no longer exists, defamatory statements can no longer be condemned. All this is very dangerous for democracy“, he explained.
