A love that took a long time to come to fruition
When Hugues Aufray crossed paths with his future wife for the first time, 29 years ago, it was not really the right time for him to fall in love… He was in fact already married and the father of two daughters.. “As a child, I swore never to divorce, I kept my word. When my poor wife died, I said to Muriel: ‘We are free, we can get married’. She waited 25 years for me “says the singer who maintained a relationship with the young woman for many years.

“It would be too complicated to explain this now, but I didn’t have a double life, I didn’t live with two women” explains Hugues Aufray. “I didn’t disown my wife during this time, but Muriel was what I needed, it was my new love story. My wife understood this even if it was not a great pleasure for her. My children understood it too. And it happened naturally.”
Funny place for a meeting
Now aged 94, the singer of the famous hit Santiano seems in better shape than ever, as if time had no hold on him. The nonagenarian is also touring across France while most French people have been retired for a long time at his age. The secret of his longevity would also lie in his beautiful love story. “JI live with my young wife Muriel. Having someone very young by my side feels a lot of good.”. Their relationship actually began in a particularly banal environment since the two lovers met on a train! Their beautiful story began, completely by chance, on a TGV in August 1995. The singer then exchanged a few words with the young woman. “Are you an actress?” he asks her. “Do you want to work in cinema? A light shines through you and I am sure you will succeed in this field!
