Hit by a tree – forest workers had to rush to help the injured

Two forest workers had to rush to the aid of their 51-year-old colleague on Wednesday afternoon in a forest near Teuchl, in the Reißeck community. A tree trunk that had snapped back from the rope attachment hit the man on the left side of the trunk, the men had to carry the injured man to a minibus and drive over a forest path to the rescue.

The three forest workers from the Spittal / Drau district had cleared the rough terrain in a forest near Teuchl at around 2.30 p.m. One of the three fastened ropes around the tree trunks about 300 meters below them, out of sight of the other two. During the last pull of two tree trunks, a branch jammed and the tree broke at the height of the rope attachment. As a result, a piece shot in the direction of the worker present there (51) and injured him on the left side of the trunk to an indefinite degree. He drew the attention of the other two by cries for help. The two forest workers rushed to the injured man and brought him to a minibus to support him and partly to carry him. With this they brought him over a forest path to Mölltal Straße B 106, where he was taken over by the ambulance and flown to the LKH Villach by the rescue helicopter. The B106 was closed to traffic for the duration of the helicopter mission.
