The 45 minutes of gameplay of Hogwarts Legacy Hogwarts Legacy, broadcast this week, was necessarily rich in new information. Fans were able to see how the details in the castle were pushed to the extreme, how they were going to be able to design their character and fight with it, but above all what the HUD of the Harry Potter game looked like.
Apart from the exclusive images, the developers present during the live revealed some important details on the gameplay and in particular 4 things which will not be in-game.
Unable to change character appearance afterwards
During the character creation session, we were able to observe how the players were going to be able to shape their avatar: face, eyes, hair, scars, glasses or even tone of voice, the editor is rather minimal but largely sufficient to design the desired character. However, it does not seem not possible to choose height and weightan absence which can be explained by the fact that the main character was entirely designed via motion capture (an actor plays with sensors on the body and face then is transcribed in-game).
But the biggest information here concerns the possibility of modifying your character afterwards. Of course, we will be able to change our hairstyle and hair color thanks to a salon at Hogsmeadeor change outfit, but for the rest (face, eyes, skin color etc.), you will have to start a character again.
The 4 Houses Cup
Featured in the game Harry Potter at the Sorcerer’s Stone, many fans hoped that the famous 4 Houses Cup would also be available in Hogwarts Legacy. Unfortunately, during the gameplay session, we can see the famous hourglasses and the game director clearly announced that it was an easter egg. The cut will be mentioned in the story but it is not a game mechanic.
Spoiler alert:
However, in the list of trophies that comes from leaker, the house cup is part of one of the successes.
Bavboules and sorcerer’s chess
Unlike the Hogwarts Mystery mobile game, the exploding marbles game (Bavboules) will not be available in Legacy. Again, the game director indicates that multiple references will be made during the story and in particular during the side quest of Zenobia Nokes who had hers stolen, but not as playable mechanics. The same goes for sorcerer chess.
The game will not be based on real time
While it may seem logical that the day/night cycle will pass faster than IRL, we could still expect the seasons (and therefore seasonal events like Christmas or Halloween) to take place at the same time as in real life. It would seem that is not the case. The developers say that while players will be free to explore Hogwarts and its surroundings whenever they want, it’s progress through the main story that will advance time (days/months).
